1. Buy 3 lbs of ground chuck and a couple of green peppers, with plans to make chili.
2. Get home, and find a 3 lb rump roast in your fridge.
3. Also find a pound of mexican chorizo.
4. Think "oh well, at least I'll have plenty of leftovers", and start cooking.
5. Wonder to yourself if it's a good idea for a single guy with no roommates to have a 12 quart pot and a 14" saute pan.
6. Realize that two gallons of chili goes a little beyond "plenty of leftovers".

If there is one thing better than coffee you are reasonably certain has been roasted sometime within the past month, it is coffee you are absolutely certain has been roasted exactly nine and one-half hours before you brew it.

That is all.
10th-Oct-2005 07:14 pm - Bagels
Apparently, you can't get good bagels in Houghton. Or at least, I couldn't find any. So I made my own. Unfortunately, I messed up something, and ended up with round bread-objects almost, but not quite completely unlike bagels.

The crumb is too coarse, so they pretty much taste like regular bread in the shape of bagels. I THINK that the problem either is that I didn't knead the dough well enough, left them to rise too long, or both. I will try again on Friday when I don't have to run off to class in the middle of making them.
